About Us
Chula Vista RV Resort was born in March of 1983. At that time there was no yacht club, marina, or restaurants… just a salt marsh.
One of our biggest concerns was how to get plants to grow in a salt marsh. Then in 1985 enter Trent Williams. Trent knew he had a pretty big job on his hands, but dove right in.
For the first couple of years we planted everything that we could think of, but there wasn’t very much that would live in such harsh soil conditions. It seemed that conventional landscaping techniques were out the window. About this time Trent noticed that Sea World had about the same growing conditions as us, and they didn’t seem to \be having any problems… We spoke to Sea World’s Landscaping Dept. They were very giving with information and techniques on how to make this work.
The hedges that separate the sites are actually shoots that were started from a couple of the original first hedges that survived, as are most of the bigger trees and shrubs found here on the property. Now that we knew how to make things grow, we were able to implement our Mediterranean landscape theme.
Around the grounds you will find plants from North America, India, The Canary Islands, China, New Zealand, and South Africa, all part of the Mediterranean Belt that wraps around the globe.
It took about 4 years of constant attention before Trent saw the fruits of his labor… Then one day he was able to stand back, and look with pride over the way the resort was shaping up.
We who work in the offices love to hear your compliments about the grounds… but the real praise should be going to Trent and his landscape crew. When you’re here, and you see the guys outside, please tell them what you think of the property. Trent is the one wearing the blue-stocking cap.
